Kind of a dream commission. For these series, I was asked not to illustrate a specific article but rather to occupy the spread with something that drew the reader in.
The drawing is the article.
The first of the series. I've focused on the waterfront of Manhattan and the bridges. It came out as as a fictional view of New York City riverside.
An architectural capriccio where its possible to see depicted some of the city's highlights and personal favourites.
On the second piece of the series, Central Park is the protagonist as a negative presence. A void in the urban landscape of NYC.
On the magazine was published only half of drawing because of layout constraints but on the (amazingly good) iPad edition it is shown in full size.
